I received a reimbursement check for $75.95 for they didn't cover the other 10 dollars for the earrings I purchased. I brought my daughter to a dermatologist 1 month later for a purple dot remains at the piercing site.

The Doctor stated she felt it might be scar tissue from the trauma of the piercing gun getting stuck on her ear and being shook while it was in freshly pierced hole. She felt the piercer must have had no idea what she was doing and no one was supervising her in the store. After the gun got stuck on her ear once, she should have asked for help from the supervisor there. When she couldn't mark the second ear properly after 3 attempts she should have requested help instead of proceeding putting a second corrective marking next to it then shooting into the first incorrect mark.

It is ridiculous that you need a license to do hair or paint nails but to perform this surgical procedure you watch a 30 minute U tube video and then supposedly get supervision which didn't happen in this case. The Health Department in Maine needs to protect children from this ridiculous and harmful practice that disfigures and threatens children's health so that big companies can line their pockets at children's expenses.

Seven days later purple mark still present in right ear. I don't know if her ear was pierced or tatooed.

Hoping marker is not embedded in her ear under skin since tech made two marks and never erased wrong one going through the wrong one or infection is setting in. Awaiting a dermatologist appointment. Refund not received as of yet.

Waiting. This has been a stressful nightmare that is not ending for us.

Spoke with district manager who was very kind, and promises a refund and re-training of staff. I reached out to APP " Association of Professional Piercers" president who recommended utilizing a member to redo the piercing in the future: https://www.memberleap.com/members/directory/search_bootstrap.php?org_id=AOPP&B1=X

One ear pierced in middle of lobe. Other ear pierced to inside of lobe.

Instrument stuck to my child's ear having to shake it loose from freshly pierced ears. Technician not licensed or responsible for poor outcome or complications. No governing body overseeing this practice. I had to remove them or forever look ridiculous.

She will now have scar tissue and unpredictable inflammation with no ear pierced. I did speak to a manager willing to process a refund and ensure that this newer staff member was re-trained. This gave me some peace that others can avoid this nightmare in the future.

She was very kind, empathetic, and respectful, and for this I am grateful. Nonetheless, in the future I would go to a medical ear piercer or a recommended ear piercer from the Association of Professional Piercers, APP to get the best chances of a favorable outcome.

User's recommendation: Find a medical professional: Doctor.

Monetary Loss: $84.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Claires Pros: Convenient.

Claires Cons: Not enough experience with ear piercing.

Location: 1 Freeport Village Station, Freeport, ME 04032

I would follow the APP president's advice and only go to a piercer that is approved by their organization for meeting certain health and safety standards only: Member Locator :https://www.memberleap.com/members/directory/search_bootstrap.php?org_id=AOPP&B1=X

I contacted the APP, Association of Professional Piercers, and was further educated that use of piercing guns or pressure systems for piercing even of the ear is not recommended. Therefore, even with the most experienced piercer Claire's will likely provide a substandard outcome.

It is shocking to me that hair dressers and nail artists are licensed by an outside entity, but to perform a surgical procedure on children you don't need a license and there is no governing body in place to ensure safe, optimal practice.

Piercing permanently alters a child's body, can lead to keyloids and infections, but anyone with minimal training is allowed to do this. I feel like this is a third world practice not the United States.
